Hope’s Garden $4.99 LOVE IN BLOOM Gage Farrell had answered Cat Simmons’s prayers. She needed a loan to expand her nursery, and he had offered. Gage eagerly anticipated their new partnership. Eden was the perfect place to reevaluate his materialistic lifestyle and find spiritual healing. But theirs was obviously not a perfect partnership. Cat was set in her rigid traditions and small-town ways, and Gage liked to think big! Still, Gage found Cat’s honesty and warmth refreshing, and it wasn’t long before her mere presence started to play havoc with his concentration. And it looked as though there was more to this partnership than just business…. |

Bradley $9.99 Dubbed by the World War II press as "The GI General" because of his close identification with his men, Omar Bradley rose to command the U. S. 12th Army Group in the European Campaign. By the spring of 1945, this group contained 1,300,000 men–the largest exclusively American field command in U.S. history. Mild mannered, General Bradley was a dedicated mentor, the creator of the Officer Candidate School system, and a methodical tactician who served through World War II. Then, as a five-star general, he lifted the Veterans Administration from corruption and inefficiency to a model government agency, served as U.S. Army chief of staff, first chief of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, and head of NATO. Alan Axelrod applies his signature insight and compelling prose to the life, strategy and legacy of the general who remains the model for all commanders today as the man who revolutionized the National Guard, shaped the US army’s focus on the individual soldier, and emphasized cooperation and coordination among the military services–a cornerstone of modern U.S. military doctrine. |

There is Hope for a Tree $160 Insights gained from the study of metaphorical language in other fields, particularly New Testament parable research, are here applied to the tree metaphors in Isaiah 1-39. The focus of investigation is the content of the metaphors , the intentions underlying their use, and the consequences of that use. The author suggests that (1) the informative function of the tree metaphors is to provide theological interpretations of the political situation; (2) the performative function of the metaphors is to engage the audience in such a way that they adopt the metaphors' interpretation of reality as their own; (3) the use of metaphorical language encourages continual reinterpretation of the original proclamation. The tree in the Garden, the felling of trees, new growth of felled trees and the forest fire, are among the images Isaiah uses to make his political statements. He shows himself to be an extremely competent rhetorician in using these images to instil an active response in his audience. The modes in which the metaphors can be reinterpreted and reapplied in new contexts are perceived as significant not only for the composition of Isaiah, but for that of subsequent religious literature. |

No Rhyme Or Reason $9.62 No Rhyme or Reason is a short but beautifully and provocatively written volume of poetry dealing with many trials, tribulations, joys and sorrows experienced by us all. Unlike so much contemporary poetry these days, this is not a rant of the author’s pet peeves, political views or personal slights. This simple tome is a most unusual celebration of the entire roller coaster that is our lives. Each poem is accessible to all who read it, and in most cases you don’t have to ‘dig’ to find some obscure message. One of the most beautiful elements of this work lies in it’s simplicity and economy of wording.A wonderfully crafted work of beauty, not only in it’s writing, but in the layout of the work, itself. Divided into four chapters titled: Life, Love, Loss and Hope, each section begins with a poignant haiku under the section title that emphasizes the overarching theme in each section. Some of the topics covered include love, lost and found, joys and sorrows of child rearing, our connections with God and our environment, simple everyday joys, perseverance, regret, alcoholism, dementia, child abuse and suicide, various relationships, and finding our place in the world. Each of these topics is treated with dignity and emotional and intellectual insight. While the author’s approach to perspective is intentionally innocent, the result is a clear and simple message associated with each piece, and wouldn’t be possible without that approach. There’s something here for everyone, from the school child to the elderly, with a passionate understanding of what these experiences bring to the soul. These stories couldn’t be written without having been lived. Particularly noteworthy pieces of masterful storytelling that will be reread over and over are: Head Down Into The Wind; Tomorrow Is Another Day; Trite And True; Mommy, Please Mommy; Garden In A Bottle; Sailing Blindly Into The Storm; Lime Kiln Transformation; Numerology; and The Man |
