Don't Think Twice, It's Alright

My first time recording a video using a proper microphone, usually I just do it with the phone. This was recorded with a Rode NT4 stereo mic using the Boss BR-800 digital recorder as the audio interface.

Groove On

It's an old song but a new recording. This was one of the first songs I ever wrote back in 2005. Eddie and me did a rough recording one night back then when we were somewhat inebriated but it's taken me this long to get around to doing a proper recording. Enjoy!

Back in business

After a 7 year recording hiatus during which time I've moved house 3 times, moved country from Luxembourg to Ireland, got married, became a dad... I finally have a home studio set up again!

While I was getting everything set up I found an unfinished project(4 guitar tracks) from my old band that had been hiding on a hard drive since 2005. So, to get me back in the swing of things I decided to finish it off.
Now that that's done there are no more excuses so I'll get started now on some new recordings. In the meantime, here's the song I finished off: Don't Tell Me(written by Eddie Leonard):

New Song

What would be the point in new sites and new URL's without a new song, I hear you cry? I've traded in the studio for a nursery and although fatherhood leaves little time for recording, it does give me something new to sing about (Singing about drunken one night stands wore a bit thin with the Mrs once we got married :-o))

Anyway, here it is: "Baby Blue". I hope you enjoy!

Writing a New Score

My friend, Richie Babel, seems to be well and truly back to being his cocky little frontman self again but that's not the Richie that inspired this song.
This song was written from the perspective of the more pessimistic, downbeat Richie, when his band wouldn't let him sing or use his songs and he would say things like -
The other side of this though is that I now fing that when I'm writing something, I'm more likely to abandon it and discard it as another cliché, i.e. "you've been there and done that a thousand times ...".

And I find myself playing the chord that sounds best, looking for the next part of the progression and thinking "well, yeah, that's OK, but it's a bit obvious isn't it"

And my personal favourite :-D -
...you're mostly left with 1-4-5 and sometimes the minor second and a bloke that can't sing to save his life.
The same certainly goes for the entire album I wrote.
So here it is, "Writing a New Score", the first recording of the new guitar as well. hope you enjoy!

New music added

I've added a player to the music page with some new tunes on it ( http://sideshowmanny.wordpress.com/music-2/ ), they are -

All For Show, The Girls Got Shoes, Blueray Man and In The Pygmalion Bar

I suppose it's like an EP for the next album which I'm currently working on. I reckon the album will be finished next spring, I'll upload each song as it's recorded anyway though, seeing as I'll be giving it all away for free anyway.
If you subscribe to the feed for this blog or follow me on Twitter or Facebook then you'll be updated whenever something new is posted.

Music page added

I've added a music page which, at the moment, has a SoundCloud player with all the tracks from "Sideshow" and links to download each track from SoundCloud.

I'm working on some new material at the moment and will upload some of that later this week.
